Mignonette vine
Anredera cordifolia
Number 10
DESCRIPTION:
VALUES AT RISK:
Mignonette vine is a perennial climber. The
vine has large fleshy heart-shaped leaves,
‘warty’ aerial tubers on stems, and small,
fragrant cream flowers that flower from
January to April.
Ecological values, through competition
with, and the exclusion of, native plants
Amenity values, particularly in gardens,
open areas and other amenity areas.
OTHER NAMES:
Boussingaultia baselloides, Boussingaultia
cordifolia, madeira vine.
HOW TO DESTROY
MIGNONETTE VINE:
Hand pull young vines or seedlings. Take
care to collect all tubers, which are easily
dislodged, and can regrow. Burn them or
put them in a bag to rot.
Use a herbicide such as metsulfuron (eg
Escort), glyphosate or picloram (eg Vigilant)
for larger infestations, although there is no
label recommendation on these herbicides
specifying Mignonette vine.
Guidance for using metsulfuron (eg Escort,
meturon or zeal)
Best results for controlling mignonette
vine with metsulfuron are achieved from
November to May.
If using a handgun – mix 35 gm of
metsulfuron with 100 L of water.
If using a knapsack, mix 5 gm of
metsulfuron with 15 L of water.
Spray the plant to give complete and
uniform coverage.
These products must be under the care
of an approved handler when used in a
wide dispersive manner, or applied by a
commercial contractor.
All pest plants are banned from being
sold, propagated or distributed.
Guidance for using glyphosate
Best results for controlling Mignonette
vine with glyphosate are achieved from
January to April when the plant is
flowering.
If using a handgun – mix 750 ml of
glyphosate with 100 L of water.
If using a knapsack, mix 75 ml of
glyphosate with 10 L of water.
Spray the plant to give complete and
uniform coverage. If bushes have been
cut, regrowth should be 1.5 m before
STRATEGY RULE:
You must destroy all mignonette vine on
your property.
spraying. Take care to collect and
dispose of any dislodged tubers.
Follow mixing instructions carefully as
concentrations of glyphosate vary in the
different formulations of this herbicide.
This product must be under the control
of an approved handler when applied
onto or into water. Records of use must
be kept when applied onto or into water.
Guidance for using picloram gel
(eg Vigilant)
Best results for controlling mignonette
vine with picloram gel are achieved
during periods of active growth – from
November to April.
Cut stem or vine 50 - 100 ml above
ground, taking care to collect and
dispose of any dislodged tubers.
Apply gel to the top of the stem within
five minutes of cutting the stem. For
stems less than 20 mm in diameter,
apply about 3 - 5 ml of gel. For stems
greater than 20 mm, apply 5 ml of gel.
This product must be under the care of
an approved handler if the substance is
used by a commercial contractor or
applied directly onto or into water.
