Brian Wilson / Rodriguez - June 30, 2015
A couple of months after Brian Wilson releases his upcoming album, No Pier Pressure, the
singer-songwriter will hit the road for a summer tour with a stop at Jones Beach on June 30.
Wilson's former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, who recorded the No
Pier Pressure song "Sail Away" with him, will join him on the tour. Folk singer Rodriguez, who
was the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man, will serve as the
tour's opener.
No Pier Pressure, which is due out April 7th, will contain 13 new Wilson tunes, most of which
feature notable guest artists. In addition to Jardine and Chaplin, Wilson's onetime Beach Boys
bandmate David Marks makes appearances on "What Ever Happened" and "The Right Time" –
the latter of which was recently turned into a music video showing Wilson and friends working in
the studio. Other guests on the LP include She & Him, fun. frontman Nate Ruess and country
singer Kacey Musgraves, among others.
Prior to the record's release, Wilson will make an appearance at his own tribute concert, Brian
Fest, which is scheduled to take place at L.A.'s Fonda Theatre on March 30th. The concert will
feature several artists singing five decades of Wilson songs, including Norah Jones, the Killers'
Brandon Flowers, Heart's Ann Wilson, Wilson Phillips and the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and
Steve Drozd.
Wilson is also the subject of a biopic, Love & Mercy, in which Paul Dano portrays him in the
Sixties and John Cusack plays him in modern-day scenes. The film is due out June 5th, and a
trailer is streaming online. "I hope the movie leaves them with a sense of compassion," Dano
told Rolling Stone of the film in 2013.
