About Jim Yuskavitch
Ji m Yus kav i tch earned his Bachelor of
Science degree in Resource Recreation
Management and Wildlife Biology from Oregon
State University’s School of Forestry.
He began his professional career as a research
assistant with OSU, working on wildlands use
studies on Oregon’s Illinois River and in Denali
National Park, Alaska. He spent five years as
Outdoor Program Coordinator for the Corvallis,
Oregon, Parks and Recreation Department where
he also helped develop plans for a city-wide trail
system and was a member of the Corvallis
Mountain Rescue Unit, participating in technical rescue operations in the High Cascades.
In 1982, he surveyed archaeological sites
throughout interior Alaska for the Bureau of
Indian Affairs. He was hired by
Trout Unlimited in 1987 as an
editor to help produce its
national magazine, Trout,
where he specialized in fisheries science and conservation
journalism. He began his editorial services business in
1993.

Sample Projects
D eFenDeRS OF WiLDLiFe hired Jim Yuskavitch to
research and write an extensive report on the economic
benefits of endangered species. The report profiled a variety of businesses and organizations throughout the U.S.
ranging from Florida dive shop owners to tour guides in
Wyoming who generate income from species listed under
the Endangered Species Act.

Technical Reports
The C OnFeDeRateD tRiBeS OF WaRM S PRingS
contracted Jim Yuskavitch as project editor and writer
for their Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
application to own and operate the Pelton-Round
Butte Hydro Project on Oregon’s Deschutes River.
The project culminated in a four-volume environmental and engineering analysis.
Yuskavitch provides the ORegOn D ePaRtMent OF
F iS H anD WiLDLiFe with public outreach/news services. Feature articles and news releases are written and
placed in statewide newspapers and other media outlets.
This also includes writing, editing and designing
newsletters, biennial reports to the state legislature and
brochures.
He also creates ongoing photo/text packages for tHe
n atURe C OnS eRvanCY in Oregon, profiling fish
habitat restoration projects funded through a partnership
with TNC, Portland General Electric and PacifiCorp.

Jim Yuskavitch was contracted by the ORegOn

throughout the state, photographing its fish hatcheries
and wildlife areas, focusing on the resources, wildlife and
amenities they provide to the public as well as various
management operations. Photographs from this shoot
were used on the agency’s Web site and to illustrate its
various publications.
