It is located on the Potaro River in the Kaieteur National Park, a protected area. Kaieteur Falls is 226 meters (741 feet) from its plunge over a sandstone cliff to the first break. The Waterfall is an amazing sight to behold and the National Park is home to beautiful creatures such as the Guiana Cock of the Rockand the Golden frog. Mangrove Reserve/Mangrove Heritage Travel Trail Tour Mangroves are integral to the sea defences of Guyana. Naturally occurring, the mangrove forests on the coast became depleted through human activity – harvesting of the mangroves for various activities thus denuding the landscape. With climate change and rising sea levels a real threat to the continued existence of Guyana’s coast the mangroves have been re-planted and a mangrove reserve established. In addition mangroves provide a habitat for numerous species including birds, fish and crustaceans. The Iwokrama forest is a protected area consisting of 371,000 hectares of rain forest.
