Elicere utilized a design philosophy of
simplicity and standardization to deliver

The REPROTOX® development platforms
are Java and the Google Android SDK.
The REPROTOX® database utilizes the
small footprint SQLite database. The
SQLite database is updated on a monthly
schedule with data files generated from
the main REPROTOX® SQL Server database.
Authentication and data updates are
achieved via a JSON web service. Because the
REPROTOX® data is stored in Microsoft SQL
Server.
Custom Data Transformation
Elicere also developed a universal utility to
convert the data to SQLite format and add
the necessary metadata for Android to be
able to read the database. The tool is a C#
desktop application that can be used for any
SQL Server to SQLite data conversion (Apple
IOS or Android). It enabled the conversion of
the existing data into a format suitable for
Android and pre-populated SQLite for the
device installation. This was only used for
the initial installation. All data updates are
then synched via XML files.
Using their member code, Reproductive
Toxicology Center members who subscribe
to the REPROTOX® web version are able
to download the Android version from
Google’s online store, Android Market,
which runs on 1.5 or later. After an easy
download and fast installation, the user is
prompted to login to the system prior to
downloading the database. The application
allows subscribers to browse, view detailed
data, search, email, and add individual
items to their favorites for quick retrieval.
The user only has to login once while their
subscription is valid. Because the database
and authentication certificate are stored
on the device, the user can operate the
application off-line if no cell phone or
wireless connection is available.
