System Sizing Guidelines
The Altosoft Business Intelligence platform is an end-to-end enterprise-class system that is dependent upon
Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) and other Windows based tools.
Hardware
Hardware requirements vary based on a variety of server and client elements. The Studio application, only
required by users who configure data connections and define KPIs, can run on virtually any Microsoft
Windows-based computer with a minimum of 6GB RAM and clock speed of 1.8GHz or higher. If the intent
is to install and run both Studio and Altosoft Server components on the same computer be sure to follow
the server requirements.
The Server should be of sufficient power and resource levels to support the anticipated load on the system.
The following parameters are intended to provide guidelines for the specific requirements of the server.
Processor The Altosoft software runs on 64-bit based machines with a minimum 2GHz clock speed.
Production servers are highly recommended to have a minimum of a dual core configuration with
1.8GHz clock speed. For configurations combining both database and Altosoft servers a minimum of
a quad core configuration is recommended.
RAM The total required memory depends on the number of the individual source database records
being processed in a single batch (please note that this assumes that all resources are available for
the Altosoft servers). The reference values are:

NOTE: If the Altosoft Server is installed on the same server as the database server these resource requirements must be considered as added
requirement over the required resources as defined by the database vendor for non-Altosoft related operations. Use of data compression
capabilities of database servers (such as that found in SQL Server 2008 Enterprise) must also be factored in to the overall CPU load calculations
when shared server configurations are employed.

The following are the approved baseline OS and application framework requirements:

Web Server
The following are the approved baseline OS and application framework requirements:
Internet Information Server (IIS) must be enabled and configured. While IIS is provided with all Windows
servers, it is not installed by default – you must make sure this is done. In order to verify the availability of a
properly installed version of IIS simply open Internet Explorer and enter these URLs:
http://localhost/localstart.asp
http://localhost/iishelp/iis/misc/default.asp
Once loaded you should see appropriate IIS default pages or a commonly found “Under Construction”
page. If you receive a “Page not Available” or similar message IIS is not configured correctly, please contact
your system administrator.
Metadata Repository
Altosoft stores its metadata and calculated KPIs in either Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, or 2012
or MySQL. The server used for this storage can be a separate server or simply a new database on any
existing server for which you have specific Database Owner, or “DBO”, privileges. When installing the
database, we strongly recommend using the database security administration option as opposed to
Windows Authentication.

System Sizing Guidelines
If you wish to use a separate server, please install it prior to installing Altosoft. If you are using SQL Server
be sure to install Microsoft SQL Server Studio or Studio Express for managing the database.
Database Drivers
The machine on which Altosoft has been installed must be able to access the data to be analyzed. If the
database is accessed over a network connection you must verify the necessary security/firewall settings and
the availability of the necessary drivers for the target databases.
If the analyzed data is located in SQL Server no special driver is required. If the analyzed data is located in
Oracle install the Oracle client. The Oracle client can be downloaded from:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/windows/odpnet/index.html
For other databases, obtain ODBC driver from the database vendor or a third party.
Dashboard Clients
Machines that are to run Altosoft Dashboard, in either Designer or Viewer mode, need only have a web
browser, access to the machine running the IIS instance hosting the dashboard and Microsoft Silverlight
and/or HTML 5. The configuration for these machines is Windows 7+ with a minimum of 4GB of RAM and a
microprocessor with a clock speed of at least 2GHz.
