Mrs. Horning’s and Mr. Sager’s Team Taught Algebra Expectations Class Expectations Students should be ready to go and in their seats when the bell rings. This entails: o picking up a warm-up slip on your way in o having your homework and sharpened pencil out o participating and asking questions on warm-up and previous night’s homework o following any other directions on the board. Why you ask? Our time together is valuable and we hope to allow a classroom where you can accomplish as much as possible during our time together. For that reason, we don’t want to waste time at the beginning of the hour that need not be wasted. CELL PHONE policy – Students should not be on them nor should they be out, UNLESS given SPECIFIC PERMISSION for a math-related activity. No calculators on phones allowed. We confiscate phones and turn them into the office if used inappropriately. MUSIC POLICY – students may listen to music during worktime or after finishing a weekly assessment if they ask for permission (and it’s granted) and volume is kept low. o Students should NOT be on devices during weekly assessments. Warm-Up/Participation – We expect you to work through the problems in our warm-up, notes, homework and reviews with us. We will call on students (at random) to help us along with our warmup, notes, homework and reviews. If you don’t know what to do or what the answer is, then you need to ask a question to clarify how to do what we’re doing. Homework Checks – We expect you to do your homework every night. We will check to see that your homework is attempted and completed each day during the warm-up. We will then go over each homework problem to ensure you understand the material and have ample time to ask questions on portions that are unclear. Weekly Assessments and W.A. Sheet – Weekly assessments are used to help you retain the material longer, as well as give you multiple attempts on the topics we learn throughout the semester. It is CRUCIAL that you review previous week’s assessments to remind yourself of what the section is about. It is also CRUCIAL that you stay up-to-date on filling out you W.A. sheet. Failure to do so will cause undue stress when W.A. sheets are turned in, and/or your grades won’t get replaced. Have FUN – We love to have fun with math, but that only works if we’re all on the same page and doing math together. If we can ensure that everyone’s on their game, we can ensure that we’ll have fun with it!
