Stringed Instruments
Bowed Psaltery
Bouzoukis,
Citterns, &
Octave
Mandolins
Descended from pre-Hellenic cultures throughout the Middle
and Near East, the bouzouki is most closely associated with
Greek folk music today. In actuality, the bouzouki was reintroduced to Greece in the 19th century after a long absence.
Bouzouki has also found its way into Gypsy music and has
even been adopted by those playing Celtic music.Today, the
bouzouki most commonly features eight strings that are
paired like a mandolin. Six string varieties may still be found
from time to time as well.
String sets as well as other accessories are available for all
instruments.
Bowed Psalteries — Unicorn PS002, Unicorn PS001
A bowed psaltery may be one of the easiest instruments in
the world to play. Shaped like a triangle and with raised
strings stretched across its top, it is played with a simple
bow.The sides of the instrument only are played. That is, all
strings become side strings as you progress toward the tip of
the instrument. One side of the instrument is all natural
notes, like the white keys on a piano. The other side is all flats
and sharps, like the black keys on a piano. The space between
each pin is a separate note.Their tone is very sweet and has
been described as angelic by any number of customers.
Affordability, ease of transport, and simplicity of play make
this a great instrument for nearly anyone.

Fluke Ukes — Mango, Ukelyptus, Abstract
Ukeleles
The Hawaiian people have made three widely known contributions to music history; slack-key guitar, steel guitar and the
Ukulele. Ukulele has nearly always been derided as an oddity
or “toy” because of its unique musical voice and diminutive
size, but its resurgence in popularity every few years has
proven otherwise. As a matter of fact, the ukulele seems to
enjoy a groundswell of new players and interest every twenty
years or so.Right now, the charge is being lead by players like
Jumpin’Jim Beloff.
While we see quite a few quality used instruments come through
the store, here are a few of our favorite new ukes we carry.
String sets as well as other accessories are available for all
instruments.
Fluke Ukes
From the wild imagination of designer Dale Webb and master
ukist Jumpin’Jim Beloff comes the Fluke. This is a major innovation to traditional ukulele design. The Fluke is larger than
concert size with 15 frets and a 23 inch length. The neck is constructed from solid maple, while the top is Australian pine. The
body and fretboard are a molded composite that will withstand environmental changes. The tone is easily comparable to
handmade and vintage ukes costing 5 to 10 times as much. The
Fluke is available in 6 solid and 5 patterned finishes and each
comes with a matching gigbag specifically made for the uke.
Each uke comes with a bag-style case.
Colors: Mango, Pineapple, Uke-Calyptus, Hibiscus Red, Natural.
Our Price $159

The Tenor Fluke has the same body size as the concert but
has a fretboard that is 2 inches longer. Like the concert, the
tenor easily accommodates GCEA tuning but can also handle
the lower DGBE tuning (high D) with the same volume and
warmth of tone that Fluke fans have come to know and love.
