Semester 1 Lab Final Guide
For the lab final exam, Semester One students should be prepared to perform the following tasks in the
lab:
1. Install an RJ45 jack and test the installation using the Fluke 620 LAN Cable Meter
2. Test a UTP horizontal cable run using the Fluke 620
3. Connect workstations to a hub in a star topology
4. Configure a Windows 98 TCP/IP stack manually
5. Troubleshoot Ethernet/IP network problems at all layers of the OSI model.
6. Use ping and winipcfg utilities.
7. Create a logical network diagram using Visio, identifying broadcast and collision domains
8. Capture network frames using Fluke Protocol Inspector and identify network layer information (e.g.
source and destination IP addresses) encapsulated in a frame.
Students will complete these tasks working individually and independently.
Each student will sign up for a lab final appointment time.
