ENTRY TASK GEOMETRY Measuring Angles (Day 1) Learning Targets • I understand the definition of an angle. • I know how to use a protractor Success Criteria • I can use the definition of an angle to describe parts of an angle. • I can use a protractor to find the measure of an angle. DEFINITIONS • An angle is formed by two rays with the same endpoint. • The rays are the sides of the angle. • The endpoint is the vertex of the angle. • Name: ∠𝐴, ∠𝐵𝐴𝐶, ∠𝐶𝐴𝐵, ∠1 WHAT ARE TWO OTHER NAMES FOR ∠1 L 1 M N PROTRACTOR POSTULATE • Consider 𝑂𝐵 and a point 𝐴 on one side of 𝑂𝐵. • Every ray of the form 𝑂𝐴 can be paired one to one with a real number from 0 to 180. MEASURE OF AN ANGLE • The measure of ∠𝐶𝑂𝐷, 𝑚∠𝐶𝑂𝐷, is the absolute value of the difference of the real numbers paired with 𝑂𝐶 and 𝑂𝐷. • That is, if 𝑂𝐶 corresponds with c, and 𝑂𝐷 corresponds, with d, then 𝑚∠𝐶𝑂𝐷 = 𝑐−𝑑 NAMING ANGLES • Acute Angle • Obtuse Angle • 0 < 𝑥 < 90 • 90 < 𝑥 < 180 • Right Angle • Straight Angle • 𝑥 = 90 • 𝑥 = 180 • What are the measures of ∠𝐿𝐾𝑁, ∠𝐽𝐾𝐿, ∠𝐽𝐾𝑁? • Classify each angle as acute, right, obtuse, or straight. CONGRUENT ANGLES • Angles with the same measure are congruent angels. Learning Targets • I understand the definition of an angle. • I know how to use a protractor Success Criteria • I can use the definition of an angle to describe parts of an angle. • I can use a protractor to find the measure of an angle.
