Curi Yutzy ECOMP 5007 Anything that is in red throughout this lesson indicates that a student action is needed. Objectives The students will know three of the triangle congruence shortcuts. The students will be able to identify if two given triangles are congruent and give the congruence shortcut that is applicable. We use different “marks” to designate congruent angles and congruent sides within triangles Click on either box and move it to find our the “marks” for congruent angles and segments. We know that these two angles are congruent because they have a mark through the angles arc Congruent Angles We know that these two segments are congruent because they have a mark through the segment Congruent Segments Sometimes we have more than one angle or segment that is congruent so we just add an extra “mark” to the angle or the segment Use the segment tool on the drawing toolbar to add two “marks” to the segments that are congruent. You should have placed two “marks” on each of the longer segments (See Below) Triangle Congruence Shortcuts SSS (Side, Side, Side) Click on each segment in the box on the right and move and rotate them until you have created a triangle that is congruent to the one on the left. A green circle will appear when you click on a segment. Grab the green circle to rotate the segment. Triangle Congruence Shortcuts SSS (Side, Side, Side) No matter how you arrange the segments or how you rotate the triangle, the two triangles will be congruent when you have 3 sides that are the same! Triangle Congruence Shortcuts SAS (Side, Angle, Side) Click on each segment and angle in the box on the right and move and rotate them until you have created a triangle that is congruent to the one on the left. BE SURE TO OVERLAP the correct segments over the angle that is given. The last step is to use the drawing toolbar to create the remaining side. Triangle Congruence Shortcuts SAS (Side, Angle, Side) No matter how you arrange the segments and the angle or how you rotate the triangle, the two triangles will be congruent when you have 2 sides and the angle that is in between them that are the same! Triangle Congruence Shortcuts ASA (Angle, Side, Angle) Click on each segment and angle in the box on the right and move and rotate them.
