Chiropractic Care for Babies:
Channel 6 Investigates
More and more parents are
taking their babies, even
newborns, to chiropractors for
regular adjustments! In fact
some offices report a 10-12%
increase! WPVI-TV featured a
story this month on how this
works and why babies would
even need this type of
treatment.
Many mothers who get their babies adjusted
report their babies are happy and healthy and
attribute much of that to their regular
chiropractor appointments.
Some parents bring their babies in because they
are colicky. It's amazing that after even the very
first adjustment they can start showing
improvement.
Dr. Howard adjusts babies as young as minutes
old and says that parents bring them in for
several issues including colic, nursing issues and
difficulty sleeping.
Patient, Delana Fiadino says, "At just 7 days old I
had my first adjustment back in 1966, so I've
been brought up this way." "I have all 4 of my
kids regularly adjusted since they were babies.
Now THEY ask to get adjusted whenever they get
sore throats, colds or headaches. I have only
given them antibiotics whenever it was
ABSOLUTELY necessary, and Dr. Howard is the
most comfortable chiro to adjust babies." says
Delana.
Adjusting babies is gentle, there are no quick
movements or cracking and popping, as you may
see in adult patients.
Dr. Howard applies as much pressure with his
fingertip as if you would check a cantaloupe for
ripeness. The objective is to take the pressure
and nerve stress off the spine.
He says that child birth can often be traumatic on
a child's body and spinal misalignment can
happen as early as in the mother's womb. It's
important to correct it so the body functions
normally.
Dr. Howard welcomes working along with a child's
pediatrician as part of their wellness team. He
doesn't claim to cure any disease or illness. He
simply wants to remove that nerve stress so the
child has optimal wellness.

I'm getting shorter!
Is it normal for people to shrink as they
get older?
As we get older, our height often
decreases, mainly due to gravity. This
along with the natural loss of muscle
mass and dehydration of the discs in
the spine, can cause these disks in the
spine to compress.
People typically lose about 0.4 inches
of height every 10 years beginning at
age 40, and the rate of height lost
becomes even greater after age 70.
Unfortunately, there is no way to get it back, but
regular exercise (stretching exercises are great), a
proper diet loaded with calcium-rich foods and regular
chiropractic adjustments are excellent ways to try to
avoid any further "shrinking".
Not getting the proper amount of sleep at night is
not just an annoyance, but it could be dangerous
to your health. Experts have found that poor
sleep is associated with declining function and
quality of life, as well as a greater incidence of
depression.
What can you do?

If you take a nap, try to do so in the
early or mid-afternoon

Be as active as possible during the day,
including getting outside if possible.

Avoid caffeine and cigarettes for 3-5
hours before going to bed

Keep the bedroom cool and dark

Don't go to bed too hungry or too full

Avoid medications before bedtime that
might impede sleep

Another potential cause of height loss is osteoporosis,
which causes bones to become weaker and the
vertebrae to collapse. Osteoporosis is a serious and
common condition, particularly among
postmenopausal women, so it's important that your
doctor diagnoses and treats the condition as quickly
as possible to avoid potential complications such as
hip and spine (vertebral) compression fractures.
Yellow vs red tomatoes
For people who love tomatoes,
but suffer when they eat acidic
foods, yellow tomatoes can be
a good middle ground for
salads, pizzas, sauces, and any
other dishes. These tomatoes
can be used exactly like red
tomatoes, in much as any way one might care to
imagine, from tomato sauce to ketchup. The lower
acid level also allows some of the more naturally
sweet flavor of the tomato to come through, which
can be an advantage in some dishes.
As one of the more popular fruits, tomatoes are
packed with the good-for-you lycopene. Lycopene has
been shown to be a powerful preventer of cancer,
heart disease, and macular degeneration (an eye
condition in the center of your retina which can
eventually lead to blindness.


shocking to me because when you type lycopene into
google, the first sentence that pops up about

Nearly everyone has an occasional sleepless
