Living With and Beyond
Cancer
STP Workshop
May 2016
Who are we talking about?
‘Survivors are those people who are
living with or beyond cancer’
Includes those in remission after initial
treatment, those who are cured, and
those who may have active and
progressing disease
LWBC Programme
• The National Cancer Survivorship Initiative
the Living With and Beyond Cancer (LWBC)
Programme was set up in June 2014.
• 2 yr partnership between NHS England and
Macmillan Cancer Support to embed
priority findings and recommendations into
mainstream NHS commissioning and service
provision.

Aims of the Strategy
• More people having a positive experience
of care and support.
• More people having a better long-term
quality of life.
• Ambitious & stretching but need to act now
Priorities
• Transformation in support for people
living with and beyond cancer, so that
by 2020 every person with cancer should
have access to the Recovery Package and
follow-up care that responds to their
needs. Care providers will also become
more accountable for improving quality of
life, through the development of a new
metric to measure this.
STP footprints
• Opportunity to embed improving outcomes
for people with cancer locally, within the
context of the wider population.
• Chance to improve local pathways based
on information, data and experience from
the local population.
• Opportunity to streamline our patient
pathways
