PRESS RELEASE
HEREFORD HOSPITALS NHS TRUST
05.05.06
Hereford Hospitals NHS Trust, working together with MacMillan
We are pleased to announce that Macmillan Cancer Support are launching a
campaign in partnership with Hereford Hospitals NHS Trust, to raise funds for a
new build cancer unit here on site. This decision follows 18 months of detailed
preparatory work by the Trust and Macmillan, who are keen to work together to
improve cancer services in Herefordshire.
David Rose, Chief Executive, stated “This is fantastic news for the hospital and
we are delighted to be working together with Macmillan Cancer Support on a
project which will make a huge difference to local people”.
The new unit will offer superb facilities for the diagnosis, treatment and support of
local cancer patients and will also allow the majority of patients to receive
chemotherapy treatment on site, preventing lengthy travels to the Cancer Center
at Cheltenham.
It is anticipated that local fund raising will take in the order of 18 months to 2
years and that the build will be completed within this time schedule or shortly
afterwards. The site for the build is yet to be finalized but it is hoped that it will be
in close proximity to the PFI build to allow greater collaboration of linked services.
Macmillan will be formerly launching the appeal on the 8th June 2006.
