Cells
What is a cell?
Smallest Unit of an Organism
Microscopic
Cell Theory
1. All living things are made of cells.
2. Cells are the basic units of all living things.
3. New cells are only made from existing cells.
Types of Organisms
Single Celled
and
Multi-Celled
Single Celled Organism
Bacteria:
Multi-Celled Organisms
Single Celled Organisms
• Most do not have a nucleus
(A nucleus is the control center of a cell)
• Basic or simple organisms
• Single celled organisms have only one cell that
must perform all the necessary functions for
survival
Bacteria
More About Bacteria
• Bacteria are DECOMPOSERS.
• Bacteria can sometimes be helpful. Inside our
body, good bacteria helps us digest food.
• Bacteria is also used in some foods like cheese
and yogurt.
Multi-Celled Organism
• Cells of multi-celled organisms have a nucleus.
• Complex organisms
• Multi-celled organisms have many cells with
different jobs
• Each type of cell in the organism performs a
specialized function for survival
