Name _________________________________________________________ Team/Rotation _________________________ India, Past and Present Learning Targets and Success Criteria We are learning to arrange events in chronological order on single and multipletier timelines using B.C., A.D., B.C.E., and C.E. ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY: BC BCE AD CE EXAMPLES: . . We are looking for a timeline in which dates are arranged in chronological order. . AD – Anno Domini – Year of Our Lord BCE – Before Common Era CE – Common Era BC – Before Christ Today we use BCE/CE (new) instead of BC/AD (old) to keep it non-religious BC/BCE are always to the left of the zero AD/CE are always to the right of the zero RESOURCES TO HELP ME STUDY: HISTORY 1: Events can be arranged in order of occurrence using the conventions of B.C. and A.D. or B.C.E. and C.E. Document: Learning Targets and Success Criteria (Student) Last revised: October 10, 2014 RESOURCES TO HELP ME STUDY: Unit: India, Past and Present Grade: 6 1 ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY: We are learning to analyze events on a timeline. EXAMPLES: . . We are looking for relationships among events on a timeline so we can draw . conclusions. . If the date says BCE/BC, it goes on the left (BEFORE) If the date says AD/CE, it goes on the right (AFTER) 2014 BCE happened way before 2014 CE The dates to the left of zero get higher as they get older The dates to the right of zero get higher as they get newer RESOURCES TO HELP ME STUDY: HISTORY 1: Events can be arranged in order of occurrence using the conventions of B.C. and A.D. or B.C.E. and C.E. Document: Learning Targets and Success Criteria (Student) Last revised: October 10, 2014 Unit: India, Past and Present Grade: 6 2 ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY: We are learning to describe how geography affected the growth of the ancient Indus River civilization. EXAMPLES: We are looking for the reasons why rivers allowed early river civilizations to grow. The people settled by the Indus River because: Fishing Transportation Drinking Fertile soil for farming Cleaning (people, clothes, dishes, tools) Religious ceremonies Large animals go to water, and we trap them Recreation RESOURCES TO HELP ME STUDY: H2: Early civilizations (India, Egypt, China and Mesopotamia) with unique governments, economic systems, social structures, religions, technologies and agricultural practices and products flourished as a result of favorable geographic characteristics. The cultural practices and products of these early civilizations can be used to help understand the Eastern hemisphere today. ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY: EXAMPLES: . . . culture in India and We are looking for similarities between modern characteristics of ancient Indus River civilization. SKIP H2: Early civilizations (India, Egypt, China and Mesopotamia) with unique governments, economic systems, social structures, religions, technologies and agricultural practices and products flourished as a result of favorable geographic characteristics. The cultural practices and products of these early civilizations can be used to help understand the Eastern hemisphere today. RESOURCES TO HELP ME STUDY: Document: Learning Targets and Success Criteria (Student) Last revised: October 10, 2014 Unit: India, Past and Present Grade: 6 5 We are learning to use maps, globes and other geographic tools to gather, process and report information. ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY: Cartographer – someone who creates maps EXAMPLES: . . We are looking for an analysis of information about people, places and environments . using geographic tools. 6 maps we use in our Atlas Climate – humid, tropical, subtropical Population – how many people live there Economics – imports, exports, jobs Precipitation – how much rainfall Political – cities, capitals, countries Physical – mountains, rivers, desert, lakes RESOURCES TO HELP ME STUDY: GEO3: Globes and other geographic tools can be used to gather, process and report information about people, places and environments. Cartographers decide which information to include and how it is displayed. Document: Learning Targets and Success Criteria (Student) Last revised: October 10, 2014 Unit: India, Past and Present Grade: 6 6 We are learning to use latitude and longitude coordinates to identify absolute location. ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY: 1. Equator 2. prime meridian 3. 4. 5. EXAMPLES: We are looking for a line of latitude and a line of longitude that intersect at a specific place in West Asia. Latitude (North or South of the Equator) is always first. Longitude (East or West of the Prime Meridian) is always second. First thing is find the equator (zero degrees). If it is not there, think about where would it be??? Then decided if the place is north of south of the equator Next, find the Prime Meridian (zero degrees). If it is not there, think about where would if be??Then decide if the place is west or east of the Prime Meridian. India is North of the equator. India is East of the Prime Meridian. RESOURCES TO HELP ME STUDY: GEO4: Latitude and longitude can be used to identify absolute location. Document: Learning Targets and Success Criteria (Student) Last revised: October 10, 2014 Unit: India, Past and Present Grade: 6 7 We are learning to identify common characteristics of places that geographers use to create regions. ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. EXAMPLES: We are looking for common landforms, climate, population, culture, and/or economic characteristics that geographers use to create regions.
