2nd International Conference on: Unsolved Problems of Noise (UPoN '99) and fluctuations in physics, high technology, information technology, biology… 11-15th July 1999, Adelaide, Australia INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE (Technical program and review panel) Abbott, D. (Uni. Adelaide, Australia) Bezrukov, S. (NIH, USA) Collins, J.J. (Boston Uni., USA) Danneville F. (Uni. Lille., Fr.) Davis, B.R. (Uni. Adelaide, Australia) Deen, J. (S.F. Uni., Canada) Doering, Ch. (Uni. Michigan, USA) Fuchikami, N. (TMU, Japan) Giordano, N. (Purdue Uni., USA) CALL FOR PAPERS INTRODUCTION: UPoN is a unique conference in that it focuses primarily on open questions and problems, rather than answers. Although significant solutions and discoveries are acceptable for presentation, authors are encouraged to identify resulting open questions. Another characteristic is that the papers are refereed to a very high standard by using a twoway double-blind process. SCOPE: Noise and fluctuations are at the seat of all physical systems. The scope of the conference includes noise in important physical, biological and technological systems, nanoscience, neuroscience, information technology, electronic devices, semiconductors, optical phenomena, 1/f noise, stochastic resonance (SR), Brownian ratchets, all types of stochastic phenomena and exotic problems, such as sandpile physics, gravitational wave detection, quantum fluctuations, quantum Brownian motion (QBM), quantum stochastic resonance (QSR) etc. Using the study of fluctuations as the unifying theme for these diverse disciplines, is a new and exciting concept.
