Overview
• It’s a soft tissue infection that’s rare but
can lead to DEATH and other life threaten
causes.
• Necrotizing can destroy the muscles, skin,
and tissue.
Symptoms
• Small, reddish, painful spot or bump on
the skin.
• Center may become black and die off.
• The skin may break open and ooze fluid.
• The wound may quickly grow in less than
an hour.
Symptoms
• Include general ill feeling, fever, sweating,
chills, nausea, dizziness, weakness, and
shock.
• Without treatment, death can occur
rapidly.
Treatment
• Powerful antibiotics (treat’s other bacteria)
must be given immediately through a vein.
• Surgery is needed to open and drain
infected areas and remove dead tissue.
• You are given an antibiotics
• Amputation
Causes
• Many different types of bacteria cause this
infection.
• Starts when bacteria enters the body, through a
minor cut or scrape.
• The bacteria begins to grow and release (toxins)
that:
• Directly kill tissue
• Interfere with the blood flow to the tissue
• Break down materials in the tissue, which
quickly spreads the bacteria
• Lead’s to shock
Test & Diagnosis
How the skin and tissue look can help the
doctor diagnose soft tissue infection.
CT scans are taken.
Tests performed on blood, fluids, or tissue
from the area.
Prognosis
> How well a patient does depends on:
• How fast the diagnosis was obtained
• The type of bacteria causing the infection
• How infection quickly the spreads
• How well the antibiotics work
• The death rate is high, even with
aggressive treatment and powerful
antibiotics.
• Untreated, infection spreads and causes
death
Prevention
> Don’t leave a minor cut untreated
• Clean your skin after a cut, scrape
Complications
> Tissue damage
• Spread of infection, shock
• Loss of an arm or leg
• Death
When to contact a doctor
> Immediately after::::
• Drainage of pus or blood
• Fever
• Pain
• Redness
• Swelling
Hepatitis
• Something they have in common is to
wash your hands. But it’s for different
reasons. It’s caused by alcohol going into
the liver. Necrotizing fasciitis is more
deadly b/c you die within a couple of hour,
and hepatitis. You just need to go a diet.
But it lead’s too liver cancer.
