MATHEMATICS ARTS FACULTY HONOURS MATHEMATICS SECOND YEAR (MA280) Those wishing to proceed to second year Honours Mathematics must normally have obtained Honours in First Year Honours Mathematics (MA180) Students must consult Dr. Aisling McCluskey, 11 Distillery Road, before registering for this subject. THIRD YEAR (MA380) The normal prerequisite is a satisfactory performance in Second Year Honours Mathematics. MATHEMATICS ARTS FACULTY MATHEMATICAL STUDIES (MH) SECOND YEAR (MH200) This subject commences in second year. This is an undifferentiated programme. MATHEMATICS ARTS FACULTY APPLIED MATHEMATICAL SCIENCE (AS) This subject is available only at Pass Level, and the prerequisite for admission to it is a pass in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in First Year. SECOND YEAR (AS200) Students take a total of 30 ECTS. For each of the following pairs of courses, the pair must be taken together or not at all: (a) MA203 + 204 (b) MA211 + 212 (c) MA237 + 238 (d) MM245 + 246. A student taking one of the pairs (a) or (b) or (c) must also take MA221. A student taking two of these pairs must take MA221 + MA222. Admission to each course is by permission of the Professor of Mathematics or Mathematical Physics as appropriate. Normally, only those students who have passed 1st Year Mathematics will be admitted to the Calculus or Algebra courses. Only those students who have passed 1st Year Mathematics or Applied Mathematics or Mathematical Physics will be admitted to the Methods of Mathematical Physics, Numerical Analysis or Statistics courses. Only those students who have passed 1st Year Applied Mathematics or 1st Year Mathematical Physics will be admitted to the Mechanics course. THIRD YEAR (AS300) Students take a total of 30 units. For each of the following pairs of courses, the pair must be taken together or not at all: (a) MA301 + 302; (b) MA313 + 314; (c) MA337 + 338. Students are not allowed to register for Third Year courses in the subject Applied Mathematical Science unless the appropriate Second Year courses have been passed. A student taking one of the combinations (MA301 + MA302) or (MA313 + MA314) or (MA337 and MA338) must also take MA325; a student taking two of these combinations must take MA325 + MA326.
