Mesopotamia Time Capsule Project
This project will review what has been discussed about Mesopotamia. Each group must
work cooperatively in order to complete the project successfully. Students will form groups of
two or three on their own. Groups must submit their names to Mrs. Nishimura before they may
proceed. The following outline will help you.
The assignment is to assemble a time capsule that studies each of the different topics
studied. Each time capsule will be assembled and then handed in at a date to be announced. The
time capsule must not be any larger than the size of a student’s desktop. All of the components
must fit on top of a student’s desk at the same time. [ HINT: Bigger is not always better ]
Each time capsule must have the following components:
A]
Religious artifact – a drawing of a ziggurat
B]
Writing artifact – a sample of cuneiform writing
C]
Geography artifact – a drawing of the Mesopotamia area showing all important land
features
D]
Trade artifacts – samples of both raw materials and finished goods
E]
God/goddess artifact – an artifact relating to some god/goddess
F]
“Innovation” artifact – an artifact that was an innovation developed by the people of
Mesopotamia.
Each artifact must be accompanied by a short paragraph describing the details concerning
the artifact. For example what it is, what is it called, what is it used for, who used it, what
importance did it have to the people of the Mesopotamia time period, why was it chosen for the
time capsule?
The paragraphs should be 150 – 300 words in length. They must be done on the
computer. The paragraph will be handed in when each group presents their time capsules.
