7th Grade Math Syllabus Lawrence County Schools Every Child College and Career Ready Instructor: Miss Bethany Muncy Course Description In Grade 7, instructional time should focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples. Instructional Delivery and Assessment Instructional Content will be delivered in a variety of methods such as: Lecture SmartBoard Software Manipulatives Group Work/Investigative Individual Work/Investigative Practice Course Requirements Scientific Calculator (Recommended: ) 1 inch, 3-ring binder Loose-leaf or Spiral Notebook Pencils Student Evaluation Summative Assessments Formative Assessments Grading Scale: 90%-100% 80%-89% 70%-79% 60%-69% 59% or below - A B C D F Special Population Accommodations - Based on the student’s IEP and individual student’s need: o Reader o Paraphrasing o Use of Tech o Manipulatives o Extended Time o Braille o Interpreter o Reinforce/Behavior Mode o Scribe o Prompt/Cue Unit Outline - Unit 1: Weeks 1-6: Rational Numbers (fractions, decimals, positive & negative numbers) - Unit 2: Weeks 7-9: Expressions and Equations Part 1 (combine like terms, factor and expand linear expressions) - Unit 3: Weeks 10-13: Expressions and Equations Part 2 (solve 1- and 2-step equations, inequalities) - Unit 4: Weeks 14-16: Ratio and Proportions Part 1 (conversion of measurement, unit rates) - Unit 5: Weeks 17-19: Ratio and Proportions Part 2 (application of proportions, percent increase and decrease) - Unit 6: Weeks 20-22: Geometry Part 1(scale drawings, area/circumference of circles) - Unit 7: Weeks 23-24 Geometry Part 2 (triangles, supplementary and complementary angles) - Unit 8: Weeks 25-27: Geometry Part 3 (volume and surface area, cross-sections) - Unit 9: Weeks 28-31: Statistics and Probability Part 1(random sampling, inference about population from samples) - Unit 10: Weeks 32-34: Statistics and Probability Part 2 (probability)
