CLIMATIC
CHANGES
.Climate change is a change in the statistical
distribution of weather patterns when that
change lasts for an extended period of time (i.e.,
decades to millions of years).
.Climate change may refer to a change in average
weather conditions, or in the time variation of
weather around longer-term average conditions
(i.e., more or fewer extreme weather events).
• Climate change is caused by
factors such
as biotic processes, variations
in solar radiation received by
Earth, plate tectonics,
and volcanic eruptions.
Certain human activities have
also been identified as
significant causes of recent
climate change, often referred
to as "global warming“.
• A gradual increase in the overall
temperature of the earth’s atmosphere
generally attributed to the green house
affect caused by increased levels of
carbon dioxide , CFCs, and other
pollutants .
• The greenhouse effect
is the process by
which absorption and
emission of infrared
radiation by gases in a
planet's atmosphere
warm its atmosphere,
which is one of the
causes of global
warming.
• Our ever increasing addiction to
electricity from coal burning power
plants releases enormous amounts
of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere .
• Every day, more electric gadgets
flood the market, and without
widespread alternative energy
sources, we are highly dependent
on burning coal for our personal
and commercial electrical supply.

Solar Radiation
• Rise in temperature
• Rise in sea level
The ice sheets melt
because of so much
heat , and results in the
rise of the level of sea
water
• Heavy rainfall across
the globe
• Extreme drought
Excess heat leads to a
drought
• Hurricanes
• The green house effect is another reason for the
climate change.
• Leads to Global Warming
• Leads to Pollution
• Most of us already know that a thin layer called
as the ozone layer protects our earth from UV
rays.
TOP 10 POLLUTED CITIES IN INDIA
• Delhi
• Ludhiana
• Agra
• Amritsar
• Raipur
• Patna
• Firozabad
• Ahmedabad
• Kanpur
• Gwalior
• New Delhi most polluted in the world !
• United States produces 30% of the world’s
waste and uses 25 % of the worlds natural
resources.
• Children contribute to only 10% of the
world’s pollution but are prone to 40% of
global disease.
• More than 3 million kids under the age of 5
years die every year due to environmental
factors like pollution.
• Recycling alone have prevented 85 million
tons of waste to be dumped in 2010.
• China is the world’s largest producer of
carbon dioxide. United States is number 2.
• Almost 80% of urban waste in India is dumped in
the river Ganges.
• Global climate change has already had observable effects on
the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is
breaking up earlier and trees are flowering sooner.
• Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from
global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice,
accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves.
PLEASE BE ALERT
RISING TEMPERATURES WILL
CAUSE :
DROUGHTS
HEAT WAVES
FLOODS
• A PROLONGED PERIOD OF ABNORMALLY LOW
RAINFALL ,LEADING TO A SHORTAGE OF WATER.
• A HEAT WAVE IS A PROLONGED
PERIOD OF EXCESSIVELY HOT
WEATHER,ACCOMPANIED BY HIGH
HUMIDITY.
FLOODS
A Flood is an overflow of water that
submerges land which is usually dry.
Floods can also occur in rivers when the
flow rate exceeds the capacity of the river
channel, particularly at bends or meanders
in the waterway. Floods often cause
damage to homes and businesses if they
are in the natural flood plains of rivers.
GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
• WILL LIKELY INCREASE THE
FREQUENCY AND STRENGTH OF
EXTREME EVENTS SUCH AS
FLOODS , DROUGHTS AND STORM
WARMER CLIMATE IS EXPECTED TO
BOTH INCREASE THE RISK OF HEATRELATED ILLNESSS , DEATH AND
WORSE CONDITIONS FOR AIR
QUALITY. CLIMATE CHANGE S THAT
THREATEN HUMAN SAFETY AND
HEALTH
