Mesopotamian Empires: Mechanical Dioramas
-Group Preparation (Monday)
-Group Presentations (Tuesday & Wednesday)
-Students will be given their study guide for the test on Tuesday at the end of class. For homework,
students will need to complete the study guide using their notes and activities in their social studies
binder. The unit test will be on Thursday.
Essential Question:
-What are the major achievements of the four empires in Ancient Mesopotamia?
Objectives:
Describe the major achievements of the Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Neo-Babylonian Empires.
Identify the significance of Hammurabi’s code.
Thursday:

Mesopotamian region on a map of western Asia.
-Explain why Mesopotamia is sometimes called the Fertile Crescent.
-Describe how the development of agricultural techniques-such as irrigation systems-and other factors
that led to the emergence of city-states in Mesopotamia.
-List the key features of a Sumerian city-state.
-List the problems that Ancient Mesopotamians faced and explain how they solved each issue.
-Identify characteristics of a civilization.
-Recognize polytheism as the religious belief of the people in Mesopotamian civilizations.
-Describe the major achievements of the Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Neo-Babylonian Empires.
-Identify the significance of Hammurabi’s code.
