Community Laboratories Tertiary education providers IANZ Purpose KEY TASKS Clinical Practice : To provide a high quality diagnostic and consultative microbiology service which supports clinicians in the care of patients EXPECTED OUTCOMES Effective communication with ward and other clinical staff about appropriate investigations, preferred specimens, interpretation of laboratory results, clinical problems and management of patients with infectious diseases. Provides clinical advice and guidance to laboratory staff regarding specimens for investigation of infectious disease e.g. appropriate investigations, preferred specimens, interpretation of laboratory results and referral to reference laboratories when appropriate. Clinical and multidisciplinary meetings are participated in as appropriate. The Laboratory Clinical Director or Laboratory manager are advised on priorities and changing needs in the diagnostic practice of microbiology. Works in partnership with the infection control service to ensure the best outcomes for patient care and containment of hospital infections Regular review and authorization of microbiology method manuals in conjunction with the service lead. Adheres to the clinical guidelines and practice standards in microbiology Works with SMOs of the DHB. Participates on an on-call roster for out of hours support and advice Assists with training and continued education of technical and clinical staff. Provides all WDHB with expertise including regular visits to Waitakere Hospital and laboratory Responsible for overseeing the internal quality control and external quality assurance of microbiology and infectious serology testing in the laboratory and in related point of care testing Contributes and participates in local education and review meetings. Where appropriate contributes in clinically based research and development Assists with the development or evaluation of methods in conjunction with technical staff. Fosters an environment that supports clinical research. Contribution and involvement in ward rounds Contributes to the development of Regionally agreed guidance protocols Works in collaboration with professional colleagues across the regions DHBs and other providers to develop the best outcome for the Waitemata community Work with the DHB infection control clinicians collaboratively as a team Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of quality and process improvement. Works with the Clinical Director, Services Manager and Quality Manager in the development of strategic and quality initiatives for the organization. Participates in the Laboratory and WDHB quality programmes. Completes medical audits as appropriate maintains documentation at a high level of accuracy.
