CAPACITIVE PROXIMITY SWITCH
1./ RANGE OF APPLICATIONS:
A capacitive proximity switch may primarily be used for level controlling of tanks or noncontact sensing of various materials. They are, for example: granulated, fluid, powdered or
solid; as for their material: metal and non metal: plastic, glass, wood, water, organic, dry feed,
processed materials, etc. The proximity switch can differentiate between liquids based on their
pollution or quality. (It will be suitable for separating oil, water or oily water, for instance → see
waterworks, power plant, etc.)
The switching distance (where the device switches on) depends on the material because the
dielectric constants are different. A helical potenciometer is placed on the back side of the
device, which may be used to set this switching distance. The most common materials' distance
dependence are shown below.
2./ BUILD, INSTALLATION and SETTING OF THE DEVICE:
The electronic control unit of the device is placed in a nickel-plated brass threaded housing,
sealed with a plastic cap and a connecting cable.
Because of the IP65 protection, the electronic control unit has been moulded with twocomponent synthetic resin. The setting of the switching distance and the mounting of the device
are done with two mounting nuts. The device should be set as close to the material as possible,
then the exact distance is to be set with the potenciometer on the back side of the device. An
arrow (-+) on the data label shows how the switching distance is growing and diminishing when
turning the potentiometer
ATTENTION!
The temperature coefficient of the device deteriorates greatly when a switching distance of
over 10 mm (CK24-10) or 20 mm (CK24-20) is set. We recommend you only apply these
settings (over 10 or 20 mm) at permanent temperature. (Sensibility with earthed metal plate).
3./ MOUNTING:
In order to avoid the mutual effects of
disturbances the mechanical instructions
must be kept when setting.
(In the case of the non-flush mountable model, the
distance must be kept even with one device.)
