UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA COLLEGE OF MEDICINE JACKSONVILLE Office of Educational Affairs RESIDENT MANUAL EXPOSURE TO COMMUNICABLE DISEASES A communicable disease is defined as an infection that can be transmitted from one individual to another, directly or indirectly, and poses a significant threat to the health and well-being of an individual. All suspected exposures to communicable diseases must be reported to Employee Health. A resident found to have a definite exposure may be removed from their duties. Prophylaxis and treatment will be carried out according to Employee Health Protocols. Examples of possible exposures that should be reported include: DISEASE Anthrax Diphtheria Hepatitis B or C HIV Measles (rubeola) Meningococcal disease Poliomyelitis Q fever Rubella Syphilis, infectious stage Tuberculosis Typhoid fever Vaccinia (disseminated) Varicella Revised 6/1/15 TYPE EXPOSURE bodily secretions exposure respiratory exposure blood exposure blood/body fluid exposure respiratory exposure respiratory exposure stool exposure respiratory exposure respiratory exposure blood exposure respiratory exposure stool exposure skin secretion exposure respiratory exposure INCUBATION 48 hrs-7 days 48 hours 45 days /14 days 12 weeks 10 days 48 hours 7 days 2 weeks 14 days 10 days 4 weeks 3 days 14 days 14 days
