GYPSY MUSIC
" THERE ARE NO TRUE GYPSIES
TODAY..."
In fact, there are few Romani people around the
world who follow the true Gypsy customs. Their
honest music expresses everything: travelling train
of Gypsy wagons, coppersmiths repairing cauldrons
and pots, horse fairs, fortune-telling, fights, there
is also the world of Gypsy legends and dreams. The
world which will die when the last Gypsy violin player
dies...
GYPSY MUSIC BAND

" ...Music playing is the eternal Gypsy profession. Gypsy
musicians played not only during weddings and in taverns, but
also at the courts of the Polish kings. Every great boyar had
his own Gypsy music band.
GYPSY MUSIC

Gypsy music bands play Gypsy music. The question
arises what the Gypsy music is and whether we can
talk about folk music specific to the Romani
people, or maybe it only consists of elements taken
from other cultures and then transformed? There
is no certain answer and this question remains an
unsolved mystery. Gypsy history and culture are
full of such mysteries. Unfortunately we do not
know the earlier, initial form and character of
Gypsy music. It had to undergo disadvantageous
changes being the way of earning money, first
pandering to boyars, later – to customers of inns.
GYPSY INSTRUMENTS

Favourite Gypsy instruments are violin,
dulcimer and lute. Today, a lute, zither
or bagpipes – former Gypsy instruments
– are often replaced with a harp or a
guitar, and dulcimer is replaced with an accordion. The older Gypsy instruments,
such as dzynga or Jew’s harp, are also
disappearing
