The Incredible Cell Project
200 points
You will be required to construct a model of a plant OR animal cell. All models
must be made out of edible materials. Avoid using materials that have an
unpleasant odor or that may be considered offensive! Due to food guidelines,
anything that is being eaten must be part of the project. For example, if you choose
to make a cake, your entire cake must be the cell (you can NOT make a cake, and
then draw a cell on top). Jell-O is not a good substance to use as it breaks down to
easily. Models must be made of edible products. Keep in mind projects can be eaten
after they are graded!!!
Each model must include the following organelles:
Cell Wall (plant cell)
Cell Membrane
Nucleus (with Chromosomes)
Cytoplasm
Endoplasmic Reticulum (Smooth and Rough)
Lysosomes (animal cell)
Ribosomes
Mitochondria
Vacuole (large if plant, small in animal)
Golgi Bodies
Chloroplasts (plant cell)
Flagella (animal cell)
Grades will be based on the following:







Is your name on the project?
Is the cell type identified?
o Tell if it is a plant or animal cell.
Is the model a 3-D representation of a plant or animal cell?
Are all of the organelles included?
o (10 for plant cells, 10 for animal cells)
5 pts ea.
Are the organelles correctly labeled?
10 pts ea.
o Each organelle must be labeled with its name and function.
Is the project organized and presented in a neat fashion?
Are the relationships between the parts (if any) shown correctly?
o Are the ribosomes on the endoplasmic reticulum?
o Is the endoplasmic reticulum near the nucleus?
o If a plant cell, are the chloroplasts around the vacuole?
