M.S. in Information Systems – Business Intelligence
cuonline.edu/MSIS
Students completing the Master of Science in Information Systems – Business Intelligence program from the University of
Colorado Denver can now complete all of the required Business School courses online.
Program Description:
The Information Systems (IS) program in the Business School has established the University of Colorado Denver as a leader and
innovator in the field. As part of that innovation, a new Master of Science (MS) program has been developed to help keep UC
Denver students one step ahead of their collegiate peers.
This exciting new curriculum is based on national standards that were developed by a joint committee of the Association for
Information Systems and the Association for Computing Machinery. In addition to the AIS and ACM committee, it has also been
influenced by strict consultation with the IS community and has received the endorsement of eight major IS professional groups.
The curriculum revisions and updates will better prepare our UC Denver graduates for the IS careers that are in high demand
today, as well as the careers and fields that will be in even higher demand over the next five years.
The Business Intelligence (BI) specialization combines operational data with analytical tools to present complex and competitive
information to planners and decision makers. The objective is to improve the timeliness and quality of inputs to the decision
process. BI is used to understand the capabilities available in the firm; the state of the art, trends, and future directions in the
markets, the technologies, and the regulatory environment in which the firm compete; and the actions of competitors and the
implications of these actions. With this specialization, you get the necessary skills and knowledge in real-time data warehousing,
data visualization, data mining, online analytical processing, customer relationships management, dashboards and scorecards,
corporate performance management, expert and advanced intelligent systems, and hands on experience with leading BI tools.
