Fun Facts About William Shakespeare Shakespeare never actually published any of his plays. They were recorded and published by two of his fellow actors, John Hemminges and Henry Condell as a manuscript titled The First Folio. It was published in 1623, 7 years after Shakespeare’s death. Nobody knows Shakespeare’s actual birthdate. It is celebrated on April 23rd, three days prior to his recorded baptism on April 26th. Shakespeare is credited as the author of a play titled Cardenio. The play has been completely lost with there being no known record of its story anywhere. Shakespeare was well-known for creating his own words. It is widely debated how many words he actually created; however, he is credited for the creation of over 3,000 in the Oxford English Dictionary. Shakespeare feared that his remains would be disturbed after his death, so he wrote a curse in the form of a poem that ‘s engraved on his tombstone. There are over 80 different spellings of Shakespeare’s name recorded during his lifetime. There are no existing records of him signing his name “Shakespeare,” the spelling used in modern times. Of all the languages Shakespeare’s works have been translated, Star Trek’s Klingon language is thought to be the most unusual. Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing were translated into Klingon by the Klingon Language Institute as part of the Klingon Shakespeare Restoration Project.
