Jordan Di Florio 32530498 Lesson Plan Day: M T W T F Date: 4/9/2015 Time: 12:35 pm- 1:35pm Year: 7 Learning Area: English Topic: Ancient Rome, Citizens and Rulers Curriculum content description: (from ACARA) Roles of Key groups in Ancient Roman society (such as Patricians, Plebeians, Women and slaves), including the influence of law and religion. Students’ prior knowledge and experience: Students Understand and learnt about the decline and fall of the Roman Empire Learning purpose: (May refer to the Elaborations of the curriculum content description here) The Learning Purpose for this lesson is for students to be examining the evidence of the social structure of Roman society (for example the different members and roles of the Patrician and Plebeian Families. Learning objectives: 1. Identify two different classes of families within the Roman Empire (Patricians and Plebeians 2. Students will also be to identify the social divisions of Ancient Roman’s and how the Roman citizens voted. Evaluation: I will know the students have reached the learning objectives for the lesson by asking them a couple of focus questions to test their knowledge and understanding. I will also get students to share their responses to the questions with the class. Preparation and Resources: Photocopied sheets of pages 186-187 from textbook Students will need highlighter to highlight key words from reading Activity Worksheet – Family Tree style with Patrician Family and Plebeian Family Pen/Pencil to write on activity worksheet. Catering for diversity (detail any adjustments considerations for educational/resource adjustments) Low ability students paired with High ability students to work together in pairs to complete activity Worksheet. Etruscan is the name given to a civilisation of ancient Italy around the area of Tuscany, Western Umbria and Lazio. - Read through pages 186-187 Social divisions – from republic to Europe. - Photocopied activity sheet and discuss with students the definitions of the bolded words (Patricians, Plebeians, Magistrates, Civil War and Senate). 3. Lesson conclusion: (How will you summarise the learning and relate it to the lesson objectives?) Focus Questions 1. What was the role of the quaestors in the Patrician family? 2. What did you have to do to qualify as a Roman Citizen? 3. In what year did the Romans expel their last Etruscan King?
