GROWTH AND DEVELOMPENT The definition Growth is the process of size the increase (volume, length and mass) Development is the of becoming mature Factors that influence the growth and develompment External factors: • Water and minerals • Nutrition • Air • Weather • Temperate • Light Internal Factors: • Gens • Hormon (endocrine) Differentiate of Growth and Development Growth Growth is change of organism measure because increasing of cells in every organism body which can be measured by measuring tools or have the quantitative value. Or change of organism measure from small to large. Example of Growth Plant stem that has length 2 cm become 5 cm Baby which weight 5 kg turn on into 6,5 kg When we will measure growth of plant there are a measuring tools specially is called auxanometer. Growth of Plant Plant Growth • Growth is the process by which a plant increases in the number and size of leaves and stems. The result of plant growth is forage production and the amount harvested by animal or machine is forage yield. • The growth of both plants and animals requires energy. Animals get their energy by digesting the plants they eat. Plants get their energy from the sun through photosynthesis Development Development is one of change of organism towards adulthood and usually cannot be measured by measuring tools or have the qualitative value. Example : Maturation of ovum cell and sperm, and hormones. Plant Development • Plant development is the process of a plant changing from one growth stage to another. This could be the development of tillers on a grass plant or flower buds on a legume plant. • Plant development is the major factor affecting forage quality. As plants change from vegetative to reproductive stages, forage quality decreases. When in the reproductive stage, both grasses and legumes produce Growth and Development The Definition Metamorphosis is the change of shape from a certain phase until adult phase (imago). There are two metamorphosis: 1. Complete metamorphosis 2. Incomplite metamorphosis Complete metamorphosis • Complete metamorphosis Have four stages. Egg-larva-pupa-adult Hatchling does not resemble adult closely, they usually have different food, habit and habitat than the adults. (Example: Frog and Butterfly) Complete metamorphosis on Frog Complete metamorphosis on Butterfly incomplete metamorphosis • Incomplete metamorphosis Have three stages. Egg-nymph-adult Hatchling closely resemble adult. The main difference usually they are wingless for the species whose adults have wings. Often they share the same food, habit and habitat of the adults. (Example: Grasshopper) Incomplete metamorphosis on Grasshopper Plant Growth • Growth is the process by which a plant increases in the number and size of leaves and stems.
