POSITION: Utilities Maintenance Helper
DEPARTMENT: Utilities
Full Time (40 hours/week with occasional overtime)
PAY RANGE: Starting 10.00/hr.
FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs as a crew maintenance helper repairing and
maintaining the water distribution system and the wastewater collection system in
accordance with established guidelines of regulatory agencies.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general supervision of the
Utilities Director and the crew supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXCERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to work with a work crew.
Ability to write and complete work orders.
Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, carrying, digging, walking, etc.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of
management, city officials, vendors, other government agencies, other employees and
the general public.
Steadfast adherence to safety standards. Must have Class C Texas Driver License.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS:
Works primarily outside with possible exposure to inclement weather. Works days and
maybe nights, holidays and weekends in emergencies.
May be exposed to wastewater and potentially hazardous chemicals such as HTH and
sodium hydroxide. Exposure to moving machinery and noise; requires daily lifting,
carrying, pulling, pushing, digging and walking
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Leather boots, hard hat, special clothing,
gloves, eye protection, ear protection and other as required.
NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Working closely with others as a member of the team,
while working in a very noisy distracting environment. Performing multiple tasks may be
necessary as well as working on very tedious and physically exhausting projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED. Experience in a similar job field is desirable. Experience in
backhoe operations is desirable. Valid Texas Driver's License.
CRIMINAL HISTORY, DRUG TEST and DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECK REQUIRED.
City of Jacksonville conducts RANDOM DRUG tests.
