• Earthquakes are the shaking of the ground
that is caused when tectonic plates move.
• Earthquakes occur most often in Alaska,
the Virgin Islands, and in California.
• Earthquakes don’t occur frequently in
Anderson.
• It is very unlikely for cities in Indiana to
experience a major earthquakes.

volcanic eruptions and continue to be killed today

• That can cause others to die because of the grief of

• People see collapsed buildings or roads, which is a
sad scene of destruction.

• People should fasten heavy objects to floors
and walls to stop them from falling
• People should also place latches on cabinets
to stop dishes from falling out.
• It is wise to identify safe spots in every
room.
• People should keep an emergency supply of
water.

• Section1:Unlike Alaska, California, and the
Virgin Islands, Indiana didn’t have a high
history of earthquakes.

Dear Mr. President
I know that you have many questions about earthquakes. I used the data I collected to come up with a variety of conclusions.
Those conclusions will help me give you valuable information about earthquakes. You might have a better understanding about
earthquakes after you finish reading this letter.
The most recent earthquakes I researched occurred in Alaska, Northern California, Southern- California and in the Virgin Islands.
According to my research earthquakes occur in these regions about every day. These regions are all on the Northern American
Plate. These regions are near water and people. Earthquakes occur all over the world.
You can find out what parts of the world are most prone to earthquakes by looking at the history of earthquakes. An area that has
experienced many earthquakes in the past is likely to have many more earthquakes. These are called high risk areas. California
and The Ring of Fire are examples of high risk areas Based on a map that shows high risk areas, the European Plate has the most
high risk areas.
Earthquakes and volcanoes are strongly related. Both earthquakes and volcanoes occur at the boundaries of plate tectonics.
Volcanoes are formed when magma from Earth’s upper mantle works its way to the surface. The magma inside volcanoes causes
earthquakes. Volcanoes produce earthquakes through the breaking of rock as magma rises through the crust of the earth. Frequent
earthquakes and volcanic activity occur along the tectonic plate boundaries of the Ring of Fire.
Earthquakes are caused when tectonic plates move. Earthquakes occur at transform boundaries, divergent boundaries, and
convergent boundaries. Divergent boundaries occur where tectonic plates move apart. Convergent boundaries occur where
tectonic plates push against each other. Transform boundaries occur were plates scrape each other. Earthquakes are common at all
types of boundaries.
