ABOUT VANDERBILT UROLOGY
CONDITIONS WE TREAT
The experts at the Vanderbilt Urology Clinic offer
the latest, most comprehensive care for a wide range
of urologic diseases and conditions that affect men
and women. We treat cancers of the prostate, bladder
and kidneys and other urologic cancers; incontinence
and other bladder-control problems; kidney stones;
and sexual health problems, including erectile
dysfunction (impotence).
Prostate, bladder and kidney cancer
Our team of urology specialists includes some of
the best cancer doctors in the world, including three
fellowship-trained urologic surgeons. We treat more
prostate cancer patients than anyone else in the
Southeast. The specialists are all in one location so
patients can often see them all on the same day.
Incontinence and other bladder control problems
EXPERIENCE
Our specialists are among the most experienced in
the nation in a wide range of advanced techniques
including robotic surgery, image-guided surgery and
minimally invasive (laparascopic) surgery.
We offer the latest tools
to target urologic problems
more accurately.
CONSTANT INNOVATION
3-D MRI
We regularly lead other health care institutions
across the nation in finding new ways to fight
disease. One of the most recent innovations we’re
bringing to men with prostate cancer is 3-D MRI
fusion targeted biopsies. Vanderbilt is the first
hospital in Tennessee to offer this new diagnostic tool
to locate tumors more accurately. It allows more
precise biopsies and safer surveillance of prostate
cancers. Now doctors can treat the condition less
invasively reducing some patients’ need for surgery.
Urodynamics laboratory
More than 10 million men and women suffer from
incontinence (the inability to control urination), a
complicated problem to diagnose. Our advanced
computerized urodynamics laboratory allows doctors
to conduct tests that help find the sources of this
problem, leading to the proper treatment.
We offer many ways to identify and treat voiding
disorders (problems with emptying the bladder or
urethra), including incontinence. Diagnostics
include urodynamics, biofeedback, injection therapy,
nerve stimulator implants and innovative drug
combinations. We also specialize in the surgical
reconstruction of lower urinary tract abnormalities,
including sling procedures and laparoscopic surgeries
for men and women.
Kidney stones
Kidney stones are a common and painful condition
that affects both men and women. Patients with one
kidney stone have a 60 percent chance of having
another one in the future. We give kidney stone
patients a medical evaluation and offer a variety of
treatments to help prevent more stones, including
changes to diet and medications, which may also
lower the risk of new stones.
Men’s sexual functioning
Erectile dysfunction (ED), also called impotence, is
a common problem. Treatment options for patients
with normal testerone levels include medication by
pill or injection, intraurethral medication, vacuum
device and penile implants. We also treat other sexual
health problems including penile curvature and
premature ejaculation.
