Stress in two‐syllable words Many two‐syllable words come from a one‐ syllable word e.g. artist (art), remove (move) The stress is on the syllable of the original word Examples Artist Remove Driver Rebuild Become Teacher Nouns and Adjectives Most two‐syllable nouns and adjectives have stress on the first syllable E.g. brother, lovely, table, printer, father, smelly Exceptions to the rule!
