A direct object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of a transitive verb. A direct object can be identified by asking Whom? Or What? after an action verb. Do not confuse an indirect object with the object of a preposition. An indirect object never follows the preposition to or for in a sentence. Compare the following sentences: 1.
