Belden Adds Flexibility to Industry-Leading
VFD Cable Family
New Line of Flexible VFD Cables Enable Easier Handling and Installation for
Harsh, Industrial Environments
St. Louis, Missouri – May 5, 2016 – Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission
solutions for mission-critical applications, has launched its new line of premium Continuous
Flex and Flexible Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) cables, or Flex VFD cables. The latest
version of Belden’s high-performance VFD cables offers greater flexibility and is built to
withstand longtime use in harsh industrial settings.
“VFD cables are often large in size and difficult to install, which slows down installation and
maintenance time. Our new Flex VFD cables are designed to overcome these application
challenges with a more flexible design,” said Nick Birk, product line manager at Belden. “To
achieve this flexibility, our cables house up to 2,000 individual strands of copper – this makes
them very easy to bend without compromising the amount of copper used.”
Belden’s Flex VFD cables are available in small, medium and large gauge sizes to meet the
specific motor, drive and accessibility needs of various applications. Built with special, finely
stranded copper conductors and more bendable cable jackets, these Flex VFD cables can be
used in hard-to-access locations. The new cable jacketing also has robust, ruggedized
features, including increased oil resistance and use in colder temperatures.
The premium cable line is designed to:


Extend the life of the drive system by handling high voltage spikes and eliminating
potential damage to the cable, motors, bearings, drives and related equipment.
Reduce the high levels of VFD cabling noise through enhanced shielding and
grounding.
“Since some VFD cables are in constant motion, especially in the automotive industry and
small motor industrial applications, they need to last. While we’ve made the cables more
flexible and easier to bend, they still maintain the ruggedized features necessary to operate in
the toughest conditions,” added Birk. “In fact, our small gauge Flex VFD cables can handle up
to 10 million flex cycles, which is especially important for use on-machines where relentless
and repetitive motion is the norm.”
Flex VFD cables protect against extreme conditions in the machine building, automotive, oil
and gas, food and beverage and water and wastewater industries, and offer reliability for
industrial applications, whether in hazardous areas on the factory floor or harsh outdoor
environments.
