Nokia CloudBand Infrastructure Software Data sheet CloudBand Infrastructure Software is a ready-to-use software solution that optimizes and simplifies infrastructure virtualization and lifecycle operations, including automated installation and commissioning, capacity management, troubleshooting and software maintenance. CloudBand Infrastructure Software virtualizes and manages compute, storage and network resources to enable VNFs to run while meeting strict requirements for robustness, performance and security. Each instance of Infrastructure Software manages one NFVI node across one or more equipment racks, typically at a single geographical location. It performs the virtual infrastructure manager (VIM) function and provides the virtualization software (hypervisor, virtual switch, monitoring) installed on each server. CloudBand Infrastructure Software virtualizes storage resources across servers and supports external storage arrays. Multiple virtualized storage tiers are provided, including servermounted disks and SSD, pooled via Ceph and external mass storage arrays. Software-based and hardware-accelerated (SR-IOV) virtualized network connectivity is provided via a tuned Open vSwitch or Nuage Networks Virtualized Services Platform, the Nokia SDN solution. With its enhanced platform awareness, CloudBand Infrastructure Software supports high performance VNFs. This includes SR-IOV with bonding for 2 protection, huge pages for guest VMs, NUMA awareness, enhanced CPU pinning options and CPU isolation for host processes – all configured and ready for use. CloudBand Infrastructure Software provides tools and a blueprinting process for easy integration with server, storage and network hardware from any vendor. It is pre-integrated and validated with Nokia AirFrame, HPE C7000 and Dell Power Edge hardware. CloudBand Infrastructure Software works with VNF managers, NFV orchestrators and operational support systems (OSS) from any vendor through OpenStack compliant north-bound APIs for the following tasks: Data sheet Nokia CloudBand Infrastructure Software • Configuration management: It supports configuration management of the physical and virtualized resources, automated installation and commissioning of NFVI nodes, addition and replacement of hardware elements, in-service software upgrades, patch management and backup and restore. An NFVI node can be installed with an automated process, achieving fully functional NFVI+VIM+SDN operation in less than three hours. The installation process supports multiple hardware blueprints, IPv4 or IPv6, SDN or Open vSwitch networking, logging and other customization options. • Resource orchestration: Infrastructure Software provides information on availability of resources and provisions them on request. • Application orchestration: Infrastructure Software provisions VNFs based on Heat Orchestration Templates upon request from VNF managers. • Open vSwitch (OVS)-based and SDN-based networking options are available with Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing between networks. OVS networks are VLAN or VxLAN based and offer managed or unmanaged IP address management. Nuage Networks VSP provides SDN networking options with VXLAN based connectivity, seamless peering with MPLS networks and automated extension of connectivity across multiple NFVI nodes and datacenters. The VSP provides policy-based routing and service function chaining. • Pure IPv4 or IPv6 installations and single or dual stack virtual networks are available. • Fault management and troubleshooting are supported through Zabbix and OpenStack Ceilometer monitoring of software and hardware elements, including physical switches, host network interface cards, virtual switches and multiple storage devices and services. • Alerts can be configured and delivered to higher layer management systems. 3 • OpenStack Vitrage root cause analysis helps identify the sources of faults and alerts. Vitrage generates Deduced Alerts for resources that may be affected by failures elsewhere in the system. • Performance management is supported through metrics (Zabbix) and threshold crossing alarms. A configuration validation tool helps ensure the infrastructure meets the requirements of the VNFs to be deployed. CloudBand Infrastructure Software can be upgraded to new releases, including new OpenStack releases, while remaining in service. Failed components can be recovered automatically. A configurable backup and restore function based on customer preferences is available. CloudBand Infrastructure Software offers high availability with no single point of failure. Management functions including OpenStack components are redundant, using load sharing for stateless functions and active/standby for stateful functions or dedicated high availability mechanisms (e.g. for Ceph). To prevent inconsistencies, a three-party quorum failover procedure is used. Infrastructure Software does not guarantee high availability for guest virtual network functions but provides availability zones, anti-affinity placement policies and fully redundant networking to help VNFs achieve this goal. Infrastructure validation The function, performance and reliability of VNFs depend on the characteristics of the NFV infrastructure. A mismatch between these characteristics and the VNF requirements can lead to unexpected and hard-to-diagnose problems. To address this issue, CloudBand Infrastructure Software provides an infrastructure validation tool to be run before the deployment as well as during the lifetime of a VNF. The tool reduces technical and business risks and accelerates the service deployment cycle.
