Introduction
‘Confucianism' refers to an optimistic humanism religion that has had monumental
implication on Chinese life, political and sociology philosophy. Born 500BC, Confucius founded
the religion, and it primarily deals with ethical living and moral conduct; thus it is grouped as an
ethical system instead of religion (Yao 16). Currently, the Confucianism legacy is still a
fundamental part of the East Asia society. Therefore, this essay will explain the key legacies
lasting of Confucian.
The lasting legacies of the Confucian base on spiritual, cultural and moral concepts.
Firstly, there is the legacy of ‘Confucian as a family'. Confucius got recognized as ru symbol that
represented those who followed Confucius in teaching and interpreting the classics and those
who engaged themselves in education, administration as well as preserving the ancient music and
rituals. These themes raised during his conversation made ru members to create diverse
interpretations and understanding of his philosophy. However, the different learning and practice
methods resulted to various sections within the ru. Regardless of the different directions, all
considered themselves to be Confucius followers that are devoted to interpreting, studying, and
editing the classics and producing new literature about the new tradition.

In the modern world, amongst East Asia people, there are groups or families that are also
devoted towards similar ideal and form a relationship amongst themselves that is similar to those
on large families. Ru Jia is the tradition or school of scholars or researchers committed to the ru
tradition. As a family, ru Jia is committed to prevailing the ancient sage ways in the present
world (Yao 18). This family has helped to transmit the principles and teachings of the ancient
writings as well as playing music and performing rituals properly and master's guidance. In the
modern world, the family has managed to make people understand the ancient way as
multidimensional including methods, rites, and virtues of the benevolent government. Hence, the
legacy is lasting as the families are continually formed to pass the message about the traditions
and rites to every generation in the East Asia society.
Secondly, the legacy of Confucianism as a cult is also lasting. Regardless of Confucius
death, Confucianism has remained to be one only in various schools. Even though the teachings
are considered to be many and with many followers, it had no privileges during Warring States
period. Following that legalism is among the main Confucianism rivals; Confucianism suffered
and got humiliated from persecution and suppression. However, Confucianism gradually
recovered since Former Han Dynasty as has become the dominant orthodox ideology and school
since the dynasty to the current modern world (Yao 21). Confucianism related closely with the
states religious sacrifices; hence, resulted in the name Jiao, and it was among the three jiaos,
Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism.
The original jiao form is a picture that has a "hand with a stick and beating a child". It is
educating as it explains that a child is brought into the filial relation rigorously, and the doctrines
are to be spread and transmitted by a group of people. As a cult, it observes a ritual observance
system, behavior disciplines and having faith in tradition founder's teachings that are belied to

help in maintaining unity and Jiao transmission. This legacy is lasting as it has continually
promoted the state ideology as the worship and reverence of Confucius turned out to be among
the state's religious activities. In the modern East Asia community, there are religious ceremonies
dedicated to Confucius and emphasizing the figure and teachings of Confucius. People still
recognize Confucius status and his teachings dogmatic application. Confucianism gets
recognized as the orthodox doctrine, glorious tradition, and a distinctive school.
The other legacy is its educational feature. Confucianism commitment to study and
ancient classics transmission features it from various traditions. Confucius is known to be a great
classic commentator and editor. Moreover, his sage reputation is due to his emphasis on ancient
culture. The Confucian tradition has collected its classics an unparalleled annotations abundance
and commentaries (Yao 25). It is stepped as scholarship spirit and known as ru cue that means
"learning of scholars." It is agreed that Confucianism has been able to educate people about state
religion regardless of the revolution, persecution, and suppression in several years. The new
generation will still need Confucianism to explain their heritage and culture as it sustains both
religious and social privileges. Moreover, scholars want to learn further about the classic texts.
Therefore, as long as it is permitted to learn, the educational legacy will still exist because the
classic texts are still available.
As a result, many modern East Asian scholars prefer naming Confucianism as ru xue
instead of ru Jia to recognize that Confucianism life and spirit is in its learning. Therefore, it will
still be recognized as state orthodoxy or school of thought. The Confucianism vitality may get
generated through education and learning, and renewed through doing what has been learned.
Significantly, people tend to practice what they learn; hence, as people learn about
Confucianism, they will practice it and continue educating other people. It educating philosophy

has also given scholars learning the purpose of cultivating moral character and promoting
virtuous actions.
Moreover, Confucian tradition is related to human destiny and nature. Learning refers to
transforming an individual and maintaining what is virtuous. As a particular learning kind, the
tradition of Confucian three key features characterize it; the members are mostly civilized
intellectuals, they commit themselves towards expanding the classics, and they endeavor upon
carrying out ethically, politically and collectively in the classics (Yao 27). Therefore, this shows
that Confucianism is a continuous process of furthering and transmitting ancient tradition. It is
because the goal and intention of Confucian Learning are transforming the world including the
future world. Hence, it is a lasting legacy that will continue teaching people the right virtues.
Fourthly, Confucianism has an ethical legacy. Morality is the Confucianism practice and
theory characteristic. It is the Confucianism foundation that diverse moral life codes, property
rules, behavior patterns, and daily life and social guidelines got enhanced and produced.
Confucianism underlines the key community and societal key structure, to orient people’s life
and define their ethical ideal and moral standards in East Asia. Thus, moral dimension is
significant to Confucianism that itself may get defined as ethical form.
It is a lasting legacy as the modern world still requires life guidelines. Confucianism
repeatedly taught that it was significant to observe the ancient rituals strictly and have a devoted
spirit and sincere heart. Confucius has taken the whole person view and examined the tastes and
motives or a person to be able to understand the character of a person. Confucian morality
focuses on family relationships, specifically, between young and elder brothers, wife and
husband, and parents and children. The relationships primarily emphasize on having
SURNAME5
responsibilities to one another with a conscientious and sincere heart (Yao 32). The Confucian
ethics goes beyond a family as it uses family virtues as world peace and social order cornerstone.
In the modern world, the family is still the key unit of harmonious family relationships
and human community. According to the ethical legacy, everyone still needs to love their parents
and treat elders with respect. As a result, the East Asia Empire will be at peace. For, ruling class
members, their family affairs virtues are more important for the entire nation. Once a ruler gets a
profound parent’s affection, then the common citizens will be humane naturally. Therefore,
Confucianism can be a solution or social order and have people live in harmony with the current
and future world. It is because there need to have peace, and a system of virtue ethics is
significant in achieving this ethical goal. Thus, any social issues due to lack of virtues and the
will of practicing virtues can get solved through Confucianism.
Fifthly, there is the official orthodoxy legacy of Confucianism. Confucianism gets
characterized by political involvement that gets aspired by goals to bring peace and order in the
world. This legacy is lasting in the East Asia society as there is a need to have peace and order in
the region following the rise of wars and disagreements with other countries. Following
Confucianism dominance over all other schools, its ethics have become the root of ideas and
behaviors. Hence, it is an Orthodox that orient conduct and relationship. Confucianism political
and moral requirements get crystallized as “Five Constant Regulations” and “Three Guiding
Principles” that got established.
There are three principles propagated and maintained by Confucianism; subordination of
the subject to the ruler, son to fathers and wife to husband. The regulations consist of five

virtues; righteousness, ritual/propriety, humaneness, faithfulness, and wisdom. The virtues make
the legacy be lasting as they remain the same and constant to all as natural laws. The regulations
and principles bond the society and give life essence. Hence, this makes Confucianism extend its
moral codes boundaries from a single person to political and social matters. Therefore, it
provides the state with a format that ideological and equips author with standards of judging
people's thoughts and behaviors.
The Confucianism's appearance in the political rhetoric systems, campaigns, and
propaganda of the modern East Asia throughout the modern era has deliberately used
Confucianism for political purposes. The "critical inheritance" practice has justified the useful
Confucian orthodoxy and ideology aspects that contribute to the stability of social community
aspect that may get linked to Confucianism as well as its history (Yao 34). Across time, the main
motivation for integrating Confucianism in political ideology within a society is the desire of
establishing leader’s rule legitimacy; hence, generating regime stability. The East Asian
governments have continually embraced Confucianism principles that emphasize on the ruler to
remain loyal to their authority, the ruled to respect the ruler, and the ruler holding the power.
Lastly, Confucianism has maintained its legacy of Neo-Confucianism. It stands to be a
philosophy that explains the awakening of moral consciousness. This Confucius civilization
emphasized on reciprocity. It means that one needs to consider their actions from other people
perspective. Some scholars cite reciprocity as the key Confucianism virtue (Yao 246). Humanity
at its best may be thought as a virtue, and Confucianism ends goal as it represents the individual
who regardless of the having great knowledge, the virtue emphasizes on being humble.
Confucianism indicates that there is no ideal person as an individual is perfect every time. The
SURNAME7
key things that Confucius presents about individual humanity are kindness, truthfulness,
generosity, reverence, and diligence.
Confucianism has been the main key to intellectual endeavor. It begins with selfcultivation, and to other people regulation. Confucius extends that there are two sides of an
individual. Confucianism truth of humanism learning established human dignity and this creates
more need to explore on the human's inner ultimate and innate goodness to being a sage.
Humaneness person learning is a way of kingliness that requires neo-Confucianism and
Confucianism to extend the outside world inner virtues that get not extended. Thus, it is a lasting
legacy as it seeks to explore more on the civilization of the outside world apart from East
Asia.
Conclusion
As a humanistic religion, Confucianism has implicated East Asian people politically,
socially and individually. The philosophy primarily deals with moral conduct as well as the
ethical living. As a result, the lasting legacies of Confucius base on spiritual, cultural and moral
concepts. The legacy emphasizes on having more families or groups to interpret the classics,
regardless of the criticism, Confucianism has remained to be the only school, and it is
educational feature will continue to provide knowledge regarding the ethical culture.
Additionally, the other legacies include ethical, orthodoxy and neo-Confucianism. Confucianism
will continue to give ethical and civilization guidelines to the East Asian society.
