Chest Radiology Educational Purpose and Rationale The rotation is scheduled for September of the PGY1 as this is the Radiology Department’s dedicated “Chest” month where the focus of lectures is on chest radiology. The resident is initially responsible for observing the interpretation of selected radiographic imaging, and shadowing the senior radiology resident in charge of these interpretations. The resident will have a graduated level of responsibility and should show initiative in independently reading imaging, and presenting findings to the attending radiologist. The thoracic resident is responsible for understanding the acquisition and interpretation of cardiac-specific imaging (i.e.: cardiac CT and MRI), as well as comprehension of the benefits and limitations to these studies and consideration of potential alternatives. The Thoracic surgery resident will work with the chest Radiology faculty in the assigned reading room daily. The resident will review collected interesting cases with radiology faculty and attend all lectures and didactics. Specific educational goals: The thoracic surgery resident will be able to a. Read CXR and Chest CT scans b. Participate in the reading of all nuclear stress tests with attending c. Participate in the reading of all cardiac MR and CT imaging with attending
