Bear Skin Joint Flashing Contributes to Weather-Tight Installation of CertainTeed®
WeatherBoards Fiber Cement Siding With Clean, Seamless Appearance
(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed Corporation is adding to its industry-leading portfolio of
exterior siding solutions with the introduction of Bear Skin joint flashing. Designed to work
with the company’s WeatherBoards Fiber Cement Lap Siding, Bear Skin is a durable, noncorrosive flashing material that prevents water and wind-driven rain from infiltrating the butt
joints of lap siding.
Additionally, Bear Skin flashing is available in seven colors custom-matched to WeatherBoards
ColorMax colors, ensuring a seamless finish.
“Bear Skin strengthens CertainTeed’s position as the industry’s color leader by providing a
tailored solution that achieves weather-tight lap joints without interrupting the beautiful finished
appearance of our WeatherBoards,” said Matt Gibson, director of channel marketing for the
CertainTeed Siding Products Group. “Plus, it’s extremely durable and easy to use, saving time
on installation.”
Bear Skin flashing is easily installed by peeling the material from a pre-cut sheet and aligning the
repositionable adhesive strip with joint gaps. A vertical color stripe aligns with the joint so that
gaps are unnoticeable. The sheets are conveniently packaged and can be easily clipped to a belt
or tool pouch for ease of installation.
Bear Skin carries a 20-year UV rating and can withstand temperatures ranging from -40F to
180F. Also, it meets 2009 International Building Code requirements for horizontal lap siding
