Listen Carefully Event Idea List Advertise - All successful events require advertising and public relations. Apparel: Print Listen Carefully t-shirts, stickers or buttons. Wear them and pass them out. Social Media: Tweet Hearing Facts, Change Your Facebook Photo for the Week to the Listen Carefully, update status on a daily basis with a "did you know?" Flyer: Post and distribute hearing loss fact sheets at the gym, student union, etc. Coordinate: Partner with the deaf club or sign language club. Educate - The goal of Listen Carefully is to spread awareness on Noise Induced Hearing Loss any way we can. Post and distribute posters/flyers about Noise Induced Hearing Loss Facts. Get your campus library to host a special display of books dealing with speech and hearing issues. Wear ear plugs for two minutes at a chapter meeting to experience what a hearing loss might be like. Hold a "silence your hearing challenge." Sisters plug their ears throughout the day to raise awareness about hearing loss. Provide information for local clinics where hearing could be tested. Submit an article to be published in the school paper. Conduct a survey on campus about perception of hearing loss and post results on campus, in the school paper and online. Fundraise - Hold a fundraiser in support of a local speech and hearing organization. Educational Events Host a free hearing screening event. Host a speaker. o An audiologist. o A speech therapist. Host a basic sign language seminar. Host a “Don’t Work Out Your Hearing” night at the gym and use an app to measure guests mp3 player volumes; award prizes for those under 85 decibels. Entertainment Events Distribute ear plugs at a concert venue or other event. Host a battle of the bands, allowing them to only play below 85 decibels. Perform a brief skit about hearing loss/disabilities. Get approval to blast loud music for short intervals in the quad and post flyers about prolonged exposure. Host a contest where contestants wear ear plugs and are required to perform a task that is whispered to them. Volunteer - By helping others, we can spread awareness and enrich ourselves. Host an educational table at a local health fair. Annual hearing screenings are mandatory at several elementary schools; see if the nurse needs any help. Volunteer at a local speech and hearing center. Volunteer at a senior center interacting those with hearing loss and those without.
