RESEARCH EXPERIENCE 2010 Feb. – August: Researcher and group leader on the research project ‘Teacher Preparation and Continuing Professional Development in Africa: How Do Teachers Learn to Teach Reading and Mathematics and How Does Their Learning Influence Their Practice. Funded by William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. 2007- 2008: Conducted a study on the application of scientific concepts acquired through non – formal education 2006: Conducted a study on the attitudes and experiences of first year pre- and in-service Makerere University chemistry students 3 2005 - 2007: Researcher on the project ‘School Level Management in Uganda’ based in School of education, Makerere University aimed at strengthening Secondary School Head teacher training programmes in Uganda 2004 - 2006: Researcher on the project ‘Enhancing Girls’ Performance in Science, Mathematics, Technology and vocational Education (SMTEV) in Uganda. Department of Science and Technical education, Makerere University Outreach Programme 2001 – 2002: Member of the Research Team for the feasibility study of the Project ‘Management of Chemicals in Local Communities in Uganda’. 2001–2003 : Conducted a study (Ph.D.) in Masaka district to investigate how children’s prior knowledge can be developed through teaching. 1996- 1997: Researcher and group leader on a National project titled “Female Education in Mathematics and Science in Africa” (FEMSA), focusing on primary and secondary schools. The projected was executed by the Department of Science and Technical Education, Makerere University in collaboration with FAWE. 1995 – 1996: Researcher on a research project aimed at establishing science teachers’ competencies, students’ priorities and interests in science at secondary school lever in Uganda. 1994 –1996: Researcher with senior scientist, Prof. B. Kiremire on the project "Management of Chemicals in Uganda". Water and wastewater analysis as the area of specialization. 1994: Researcher on project to investigate factors which lead to poor teaching of Chemistry in secondary schools in Uganda. 7.
