SECTION 27 16 00 – COMMUNICATIONS DEVICES and ADAPTORS
SECTION 27 16 16 - COMMUNICATIONS ADAPTORS and TRANSCEIVERS
TYPE VR148COAX ETHERNET EXTENDER SYSTEM
Part 1 GENERAL
1.01 All equipment to be supplied under this specification shall be new and the current
model of a standard product of an OEM of record. An OEM of record shall be
defined a a company whose main occupation is the manufacture for sale of the
equipment supplied and which:
A. Maintains a factory production line for the item submitted.
B. Maintains a stock of replacement parts for the item submitted..
C. Maintains engineering drawings, specifications, and operating manuals for
the items submitted.
D. Has published and distributed descriptive literature and equipment
specifications on the items of equipment submitted.
1.02
Specifications of equipment as set forth herein are salient and minimum
requirements, unless otherwise stated and shall not be construed as limiting the
overall quality, quantity or performance characteristics of items furnished.
1.03
Systems and components shall have been thoroughly tested and proven in
actual use.
1.04
All systems and components shall be provided with the availability of a toll free
(U.S. and Canada) technical support number from the manufacturer. The number
shall provide technical assistance for either the dealer/installer or the end user at
no charge
Part 2 SPECIFICATIONS
2.01
The Ethernet Extender System (EES), shall be a NITEK Model VR148COAX
or approved equivalent, and shall be capable of transmitting IP Ethernet network
data over common standard coaxial cables for distances of up to 2,500 feet (750
meters) on a 10/100 network.
2.02
The EES shall consist of a Transmitter unit and a Receiver unit, each of which
shall be in a self-contained steel case 3.25 inches wide x 4.75 inches long x 1.25
inches high. The Front Panel of each shall provide an Ethernet connector for
connection to the Ethernet and a BNC type female coaxial connector for
connection to the UTP extender cable. The Rear Panel of each shall provide a
slotted screw grounding lug, a two-wire push terminal connector for the external
power supply input and a power connector reserved for interface with the
NITEK Model RK124 Rack System.
2.03
The Transmitter unit shall have circuitry capable of providing Power over
Ethernet (PoE) to one compatible connected device; i.e. an IP camera. Power to
the Transmitter and Receiver units shall be provided by means of an external,
self-contained 24VAC or 24VDC, 24 Watt power transformer. The Transmitter
unit shall provide PoE to the RJ45 network connector on the Front Panel.

PART 2 – SPECIFICATIONS (continued)
2.04
The EES shall operate in a manner that is completely transparent to the
Network. The System shall require no IP or MAC addresses. The system shall
operate as follows:
A . The coaxial cable shall be connected between the BNC connectors on the
Transmitter and Receiver.
B. The patch cable from the Receiver shall connect to the head-end Network
equipment and the patch cable from the Transmitter shall connect to the
connected device.
C.
With 24V power applied to both the Transmitter and Receiver, the
Transmitter shall provide power for its connected device.
D. The Receiver shall immediately connect to the Transmitter and shall begin
operating as a full-duplex 100BaseT Ethernet conduit.
2.05
The EES shall support any standard Network device, shall support mega-pixel
cameras and multi-camera installations.
2.06
Both the Transmitter and Receiver units shall have LED indicators on the Front
panels to indicate 1) Ethernet Network connectivity/status; 2) Ethernet Speed; 3)
Twisted Pair Link status.
2.07
Ethernet and coax inputs on both the Transmitter and Receiver units shall be
protected with dual stage surge protection systems.
