Part 1 GENERAL
1.01 All equipment to be supplied under this specification shall be new and the current
model of a standard product of an OEM of record. An OEM of record shall be
defined a a company whose main occupation is the manufacture for sale of the
equipment supplied and which:
A. Maintains a factory production line for the item submitted.
B. Maintains a stock of replacement parts for the item submitted..
C. Maintains engineering drawings, specifications, and operating manuals for
the items submitted.
D. Has published and distributed descriptive literature and equipment
specifications on the items of equipment submitted.
1.02
Specifications of equipment as set forth herein are salient and minimum
requirements, unless otherwise stated and shall not be construed as limiting the
overall quality, quantity or performance characteristics of items furnished.
1.03
Systems and components shall have been thoroughly tested and proven in
actual use.
1.04
All systems and components shall be provided with the availability of a toll free
(U.S. and Canada) technical support number from the manufacturer. The number
shall provide technical assistance for either the dealer/installer or the end user at
no charge
Part 2 SPECIFICATIONS
2.01
The Ethernet Extender System (EES), shall be a NITEK Model VR448COAX
or approved equivalent, shall include an integral four port Ethernet switch
capable of transmitting IP Ethernet network data over common standard
coaxial cables for up to 2,500 feet (750 meters) on a 10/100 network.
2.02
The EES shall consist of a Transmitter unit and a Receiver unit. The Transmitter
shall be in a self-contained steel case 4.625 inches wide x 4.72 inches long x
1.28 inches high. The Receiver shall be in a self-contained steel case 3.31
inches wide x 4.72 inches long x 1.28 inches high.
2.03
The Front Panel of the Transmitter shall include 4 Ethernet connectors to
provide a means of connection to the Ethernet per paragraph 2.05. The Rear
Panel shall provide a BNC type female connector for connection
to
the
coaxial extender cable, a slotted screw grounding lug and a power jack to mate
with the external 48VDC power supply plug.
2.04
The Front Panel of the Receiver shall provide an Ethernet connector for means
of connection to the Ethernet and a BNC type female connector for connection
to the coaxial extender cable. The Rear Panel of of the Receiver shall provide a
slotted screw grounding lug, a two-wire push terminal connector for the external
power supply input and a power connector reserved for interface with
the

PART 2 – SPECIFICATIONS (continued)
2.05 The Transmitter unit shall contain an integrated 4 Port Network switch. Each port of
the switch shall be capable of providing Power over Ethernet (PoE) to one
compatible connected device; i.e. an IP camera. The Transmitter unit shall be
internally configured so that each of the RJ45 connectors on the Front Panel
provides standard PoE for compatible operation with the connected device.
2.06 Power to the Transmitter unit shall be provided by means of an external, selfcontained 48VDC, 1 Amp power transformer. This power supply shall be included
with the system.
2.07 Power to the Receiver unit shall be provided by means of an external, selfcontained 24VAC or 24VDC, 24 Watt power transformer. This power supply shall
be included with the system.
2.08 The EES shall operate in a manner that is completely transparent to the
Network. The System shall require no IP or MAC addresses. The system shall
operate as follows:
A. The coaxial cable shall be connected between the BNC connectors on the
Transmitter and Receiver.
B. The patch cable from the Receiver shall connect to the head-end Network
equipment and the patch cables from the Transmitter shall connect to the
connected devices.
C. With 48V power applied to the Transmitter, the Transmitter shall provide
power for its connected devices.
D. With 24V power applied to the Receiver, it shall immediately connect to the
Transmitter and shall begin operating as a full-duplex 100BaseT Ethernet
conduit.
2.09
The EES shall support any standard Network device, shall support megapixel cameras and multi-camera installations.
2.10
Both the Transmitter and Receiver units shall have LED indicators on the
appropriate panels to indicate 1) Ethernet Network connectivity/status; 2)
Ethernet Speed; 3) Twisted Pair Link status.
2.11
Ethernet and Coax inputs on both the Transmitter and Receiver units shall be
protected with dual stage surge protection systems.
