Irritable Bowel Syndrome Ana Rodriguez What is it? Irritable bowel syndrome is known as IBS it leads to abdominal pain in which includes pain and cramping. The IBS occurs after an infection in the intestine. It affects the bowel symptoms and functions. Cause of IBS The cause of IBS is when the walls of your intestine are lined with layers of muscles that contract in which coordinated from having your food move to your stomach Symptoms IBS symptoms has a range –each person is different some pain symptoms of IBS is abdominal pain fullness gas Bloating Treatment Lifestyle changes-excersise , improved sleep habits Dietary Changes- avoid large meals, drinks and food that stimulate intestine –caffeine some mediation: anticholinegic medication Bisacoldyl treat constipation Loperamide to treat diarrhea Low doses of trycyclic antidepressants – help relieve intestinal pain Lubirostone for constipation symptoms
