1. Imagine you have just eaten a cheeseburger. Describe the path that the
cheeseburger will take through your digestive system, including how the food is
broken down by either physical/chemical digestion at each organ.
2. Explain how the small intestine, which fits into a fairly small space, manages to
have such a large area for absorbing food.
3. Describe the role tissues and cells play in digestion.
4. Recall that a paramecium is a single celled organism. The structures in a
paramecium that are involved in digestion include: an oral groove, food vacuoles
and an anal pore. Discuss how digestion in humans would differ from digestion
in a paramecium.
