The fight against cancer begins
by discovering the origins of cancer
inside cells.
The Purdue University Center for Cancer
Research brings together worldrenowned scientists who are collaboratively making those discoveries. Drawing
on the combined expertise of scientists
from disciplines as varied as biology
and chemistry, engineering and
veterinary medicine, the Center for
Cancer Research promotes discovery
into how cancers develop, progress,
and respond to treatment.
Sixteen drugs based on Purdue’s
research are being tested in clinical trials
— making Purdue a leader in developing new medicines and treatments
to knock out cancer. Our research also
leads to the advancement of prevention,
early detection, and better drug
delivery systems.
“Notably, the center has clear examples
of having translated a number of its
discoveries,” the review stated. “The
center is poised to move to a new level
of national impact in drug discovery
and development.”
One of only 69 National Cancer
Institute-designated centers in the
U.S., the Center develops diagnostic
and imaging tools and contributes
to emerging technologies such as
cancer vaccines and combination
chemotherapy. We translate laboratory findings into new and innovative
therapies as quickly as possible, working closely with medical professionals
around the globe to enable life and
end the suffering caused by cancer.
Through Ever True: The Campaign
for Purdue University, the Center will
broaden support for our laser focus on
research — the reason we exist. We will
enhance our strengths in drug discovery, imaging, and structural biology for
cancer. These areas, as highlighted by
the National Cancer Institute in our latest
Cancer Center Support Grant Review, are
pivotal to the Center’s leadership role in
cancer discovery and research.
