The verb group consist of auxiliaries (AUX) and lexical verb (V).
For example, for a verb phrase incorporating a transitive verb we
would have :

Tense
There are two tenses in English : PRESENT and PAST. (future does
not exist as a tense in English but is indicated in other ways, for
example by use of auxiliaries). These tenses affect the form of the
lexical verb as in:
- Present Tense
Kate hugs the baby
- Past Tense
Kate hugged the baby
The verb hug a regular verb in that it takes the ending-ed to form
the past, tense as do many others in English. Iregular verbs
appear in variaty of forms. For example:
- The dog eats the bone
- The dog ate the bone
